At Los Alamos National Laboratory, billions of files spread across diverse supercomputing systems make data curation a major challenge. To address this, LANL developed the Grand Unified File Index, a toolset that indexes filesystem metadata so users can quickly query data they already have access to. We’ve recently extended it with AI capabilities that analyze file contents and let users ask questions in English and receive answers in English.
