ScyllaDB Enterprise Release Information

ScyllaDB Cloud is now based on ScyllaDB Enterprise Version 2022.2, a production-ready release providing stability and performance improvements introduced in ScyllaDB Open Source 5.1 and building upon the abundance of enhancements in ScyllaDB Enterprise 2022.

New Features

  • Different write and read rate limits can be set to avoid hot partition problems or mitigate external issues such as spam bots.
  • Coordinator read and write paths no longer use exceptions for timeout cases, delivering higher throughput.
  • Complementing asynchronous mode for materialized views, new synchronous mode prevents view operations from returning until the view is updated.
  • Support for DynamoDB’s Time to Live (TTL) feature with Alternator, our DynamoDB-compatible API, to further seamless migrations to ScyllaDB.

ScyllaDB Enterprise Release Information

ScyllaDB Cloud is now based on ScyllaDB Enterprise Version 2022.1.3, a production-ready patch release based on ScyllaDB Enterprise 2022.1.0.

New Features

  • Further strengthening security, new clusters will be deployed with private IP addresses only. For existing clusters, customers can simply request network settings be transferred to private IP addresses and public addresses removed.
  • Cluster Metrics no longer require any manual operation from ScyllaDB Support and are now fully self-service.

  • ScyllaDB Manager 2.6: Backups and repairs are fully managed using the latest version of our management utility, ScyllaDB Manager 2.6; these activities are performed on behalf of customers by ScyllaDB Cloud staff.
  • Sandbox Cluster Instance Now on AWS t3.micro: Sandbox clusters in AWS now use the t3.micro instances instead of t2.micro. T3.micro instances provide better performance and availability across more AWS regions than the t2.micro. Sandbox clusters provide affordable development and test environments that can be used by developers getting started with ScyllaDB Cloud.
  • ScyllaDB Monitoring Stack 3.9.1: ScyllaDB Cloud integrates with the latest version of ScyllaDB Monitoring Stack.

ScyllaDB Enterprise Release Information

ScyllaDB Cloud is now based on ScyllaDB Enterprise 2021.1.7, the latest major stable release of ScyllaDB Enterprise. This release of ScyllaDB Enterprise offers a variety of stability enhancements and performance improvements. The new ScyllaDB Enterprise 2021.1.7 release is available for all new clusters, our cloud engineering team will coordinate the upgrade cadence for existing clusters. Clusters generated after January 5 will be provisioned on ScyllaDB Enterprise 2021.1.7.

August 04, 2021 Update

  • ScyllaDB Cloud on Google Cloud: We are excited to announce general availability of ScyllaDB Cloud on Google Cloud. Now our customers can select Google Cloud as a cloud provider to run their clusters and take full advantage of fully managed ScyllaDB Cloud DBaaS running on n2-highmem compute instances with deployment options across multiple geographic regions.

July 28, 2021 Update

New Features

  • Change Data Capture (CDC): ScyllaDB Cloud now supports CDC, which allows you to observe changes in your data set. These changes can be consumed by other applications and streaming services, such as populating Kafka topics that can then notify other systems. The data is stored in regular ScyllaDB tables (SSTables) and can be queried asynchronously using a standard ScyllaDB/Cassandra CQL driver or ScyllaDB Sink Connector and ScyllaDB CDC Source Connector for roundtrip read and write integration with Apache Kafka. With ScyllaDB’s CDC, you can choose to keep track of the updates (deltas), original values (pre-images), and/or new values (post-images). Data in a CDC table is set to expire with a TTL, minimizing the possibility of a storage overflow.

April 28, 2021 Update

New Features

  • Client-to-Node Encryption: The latest security improvement enables client-to-node encryption in ScyllaDB Cloud to protect data in transit using TLS/SSL. This feature establishes a secure channel between the client and the ScyllaDB Cloud cluster nodes and uses self-signed ScyllaDB Certificates. This feature is now available for all users on all ScyllaDB Cloud database clusters and can be enabled through a service request.
  • ScyllaDB Monitoring Stack 3.6: ScyllaDB Cloud users now can take advantage of ScyllaDB Monitoring Stack’s new Advisor Dashboard, available by default for all new clusters. A select set of dashboards such as the Balancer and Alerts can help users to identify potential problems proactively notify users about them. March 25, 2021 Update

New Features

  • Space Amplification Goal (SAG) for ICS: A new property that allows control of the Space Amplification when using Incremental Compaction Strategy (ICS). It’s intended for users with overwrite-intensive workloads, as this new feature consists of triggering compaction to deduplicate data whenever the compaction strategy finds the space amplification has crossed the configured goal.

March, 01 2021 Update

New Features

  • ScyllaDB Cloud on GCP (Beta): ScyllaDB Cloud is now available on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as a beta service. You can test drive a ScyllaDB cluster on GCP with our free trial offer.
  • AWS Outposts Certified: ScyllaDB Cloud was most recently selected as the only NoSQL database certified on the AWS Outposts platform for fully managed services that you can run on-premises. Now AWS customers can run their DynamoDB workloads on-premises by utilizing ScyllaDB’s DynamoDB-compatible API. Achieving the AWS Outposts Ready designation differentiates ScyllaDB as an AWS Partner Network (APN) member with a product fully tested on AWS Outposts.
  • Free Trial: We recently updated our AWS free trial instance type to i3.2xlarge (previously i3.large). We are also now offering an independent free trial for GCP and AWS (previously one per account). The GCP free trial is based on an n1-standard-8 instance type.

New Features

  • ScyllaDB Monitoring Grafana Dashboard: ScyllaDB Cloud enhanced its customer’s ability to analyze their cluster metrics by using the full ScyllaDB Monitoring Grafana dashboard. With this new feature, ScyllaDB Cloud customers can monitor all the ScyllaDB metrics via the ScyllaDB Monitoring dashboards, including cluster and O/S level metrics, metrics from the CQL data model optimization dashboard, and many others.

To use this feature, in ScyllaDB Cloud UI, at the cluster view page, choose the “Advanced Monitoring” tab. This option will open the ScyllaDB Monitoring dashboard in a new browser tab via a secured proxy.

January 28, 2020 Update

New Features

  • Using your own AWS account: You can now choose where you can deploy your ScyllaDB Cloud database — via your ScyllaDB Cloud account, or in your own AWS account. Deploying in your own AWS account allows you to keep all ScyllaDB resources (EC2, network, S3 buckets, etc.) in your own account, with your own AWS pricing, and your own company policies and geographic regulation, while benefiting from the DBaaS nature of ScyllaDB Cloud (fully maintained, 24/7 support, proactive alerts, transparent upgrades, best practices deployments, and so on).

    To deploy ScyllaDB Cloud in your own account, you are welcome to register in ScyllaDB Cloud and open a support ticket with the request. In the future, this step will be fully automated.

  • Extracting ScyllaDB metrics to your organization centralized monitoring system via Prometheus: ScyllaDB Cloud now supports extracting cluster statistics in Prometheus format. The configuration is done at the cluster level, so you can choose which cluster’s metrics you wish to extract. Extracted statistics can be used either with ScyllaDB Monitoring Stack or with any other monitoring tool that supports the Prometheus format.   • VPC Peering – Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Peering allows you to connect two virtual private clouds running on AWS with each other privately. This enables you to securely connect the VPC where your application is running to the VPC where your ScyllaDB Cloud cluster is running. You can configure VPC Peering on ScyllaDB Cloud when you create a cluster. Note ScyllaDB’s VPC peering currently supports only IPv4 address configuration.
