Developer Experience Engineer


About The Position

We are building ScyllaDB, the monstrously scalable database for modern, data-intensive applications. ScyllaDB is used by companies that you know well, such as Discord, Zillow, Medium, and Strava. Our goal is to deliver a world-class developer experience that makes builders happy and productive, from conception through deployment and on to global scale. We think the best way to communicate the value of ScyllaDB for developers is through code and applications. 

We are on a mission to empower every developer to build distributed applications that are fast, safe, and reliable.  To help us deliver the best developer experience possible, ScyllaDB is bringing on a Developer Experience Engineer to build out the ScyllaDB developer experience initiative. In this role, you’ll work with people across marketing, product, and engineering, finding the best way to evangelize and communicate the technical benefits of ScyllaDB.

Your activities in this role:

  • Create engaging, entertaining, and practical content, including videos, quick starts, podcasts, and Twitter streams that speak directly to builders.
  • Identify, prioritize, and cultivate target communities, based on programming languages, application architectures, industries, and use cases.
  • Identify key venues for ScyllaDB’s target builders, including meetups, conferences, hangouts. Submit talk topics and work with ScyllaDB engineers to present on technical product topics of interest in each venue.
  • Speak, present, and produce on a solid cadence, ensuring that the message and resources are fresh and useful.
  • Discover our true developer personas, including development style, pain points, and unique goals that bring them to developer.scylladb.com, and keep them coming back.
  • Provide the product team with a steady stream of feature requests and enhancements to continuously refine and optimize the developer experience--with a singular goal of making developers even more productive.
  • Have fun and kick ass!


  • 7+ years of experience in a variety of technical roles, with a solid understanding of modern development practices and cloud-based deployment models.  Undergraduate degree in engineering or computer science
  • A natural skill for presenting to, and persuading skeptical technical audiences.
  • The ability to gain instant credibility with technical audiences.
  • A knack for writing clear, concise code samples that capture the essence of a technical benefit or feature.
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience crafting impactful sales and marketing materials
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and cross-functional teams, and customers
  • Proven ability to go deep technically and understand our product intimately
  • Proven ability to translate technical features into business benefits
  • Experience with database technology, data analytics, product analytics is a big plus
